For those of you who planned on writing Ramirez.
“Lucas: Ottis, I don’t want you to think I’m doing this for revenge.
Toole: No. I don’t want you to hold back anything about me.
Lucas: See, we got so many of them, Ottis. We got to turn up the bodies. Now, this boy and girl, I don’t know anything about.
Toole: Well, maybe that’s the two I killed my own self. Just like that Mexican that wasn’t going to let me out of the house. I took an ax and chopped him all up. What made me - I been meaning to ask you. That time when I cooked some of those people. Why’d I do that?
Lucas: I think it was just the hands doing it. I know a lot of the things we done, in human sight, are impossible to believe.”
— A phone call between Ottis Toole who was in Florida and Henry Lee Lucas who was in Texas, monitored and recorded in November, 1983.
Richard Leyva Ramirez was born in El Paso, Texas, and frightened Los Angeles, the murder capital of the world, to it’s core.
It began June 1984. The murder of a quiet 79-year-old woman in her home was not odd to the community.
On February 1985, a six year old girl was abducted at her bus stop, sexually abused, then dropped off in Silver Lake. On March 11th, 1985, a nine-year-old girl was abducted from her bedroom, raped, and dumped in Elysian Park.
Crimes of grandiose difference in nature, police speculated and believed it was a certainly more than one perpetrator at work.
On March 17th, the police got their first description of the Night Stalker from Maria Hernandez, the wounded roommate of Dayle Okazaki, who was shot to death. Ramirez was described as, “long faced, with curly hair, bulging eyes, and wide-spaced, rotting teeth”
On March 17th, a thirty year old woman was dragged from her car and shot several times. Not too long after, on March 20th, the Night Stalker molested a girl after abducting her from her house. He let the girl go.
The spree was picking up speed quickly on March 27th, Vincent Zazzara was beaten to death and his wife, Maxine, was stabbed. When police arrived at the scene, they found that Maxine’s eyes were carved out and taken by the killer.
On May 14th, 65-year-old William Doi was shot in the head in his home.
On May 29th, two women were savagely beaten in their homes. One of the victims, who died on July 15th, had satanic pentagrams drawn onto her body. The crime scene had the same work drawn on the walls as well. The other victim survived her injuries.
The count got higher and time between each slaying seemed even more crunched. On June 27th, 32-year-old Patty Higgins had her throat cut in her home. Mary Cannon, a 77-year-old woman, had died in an almost identical fashion on July 2nd. July 7th, A 61-year-old woman was beaten to death in her home. July 20th brought two deaths, where the Night Stalker killed Chainarong Khovanath. He beat and raped the victims wife, and assaulted their son. He fled with $30,000 worth of their cash and jewelry. Later in the day, an elderly couple were found shot to death in their home.
August 8th marked the end for 35-year-old Elyas Abowath who was shot to death. His wife was brutally beaten to death.
Perhaps what was most terrifying about the Night Stalker was that he did not seem to have an M.O.
On August 17th, the Night Stalker veered away from his regular hunting ground and shot a 66-year-old man to death in San Franciso.
The Night Stalker’s reign of terror came to an end after he had wounded 29-year-old Bill Carns. He had raped Carns’ fiancee before he fled with their car. The car was found abandoned, complete with the prints of a drifter in Texas who had a lengthy rap sheet in Los Angeles.
On August 30th, Richard’s mugshot was televised and he was caught by a mob in East Los Angeles. The police showed up in time to save his life from the savage mob. After being arrested, Ramirez faced a total of 68 felonies. The list included 14 counts of murder and 22 counts of sexual assault. by December 1985, two more rapes and one attempted murder in addition to five more charges were added to the list.
On September 20th, 1989, Richard Ramirez was convicted of 13 murder counts and 30 related felonies. He was formally sentenced to death on November 7th, 1989. While the assailant was in San Franciso awaiting trial for one of his slayings, a myriad of female groupies lined up to visit him. The disruption was so immense, Ramirez was transferred to San Quentin in September 1993.
Ramirez awaits death row till this day.

Night prowler · AC/DC
Richard Ramirez, according to many reports, had personally identified and fixated on the song “Night Prowler” by AC/DC. The song served as a personal theme to Ramirez, which he often played repeatedly, even for hours on end.
We seem to have a few new followers. Most of our posts are typed up late at night/early morning and posted then.
